Changing psychotherapy practice has made proper preparation more important than ever before. Psychotherapy is being challenged by managed care, budget cuts, and diverse and complicated patient populations. Agency and individual practice have become more demanding as support and training for psychotherapy has eroded.
The Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute is committed to psychotherapy as a safe, effective, first-line treatment for most emotional and behavioral difficulties that provides lasting solutions to difficult problems. Our approach to treatment is patient-centered and stresses clinician accountability and flexibility. In an era where clinical practice is increasingly fragmented by proprietary systems and claims, the Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute is dedicated to teaching and practicing the essential components that make all psychotherapy effective and useful.
At the Institute, we see clinical supervision as one of the most rewarding and difficult aspects of psychotherapy practice. Social work licensing boards require weekly supervision for all clinical social workers; and in some states, like Maryland, licensing boards require specific training for all clinicians who wish to work as supervisors. Yet recent changes at the agency level have removed much of the support and training with which supervisors used to be provided. Scarce resources and time make the expanding list of supervisory responsibilities even more difficult.
For more experienced therapists, PhD’s, LCSW-C’s, and LCPC’s, The Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute has designed our Advanced Certificate Program in Psychotherapy and Clinical Supervision with current and aspiring supervisors in mind. Our training program is designed to highlight the similarities between good clinical practice and good supervision. Our goal is to produce therapists and supervisors who are able to use their knowledge of what makes psychotherapy work to continually improve what they do.
Our program is designed to help clinicians:
Evaluate and respond to the needs and wants of specific patients;
Utilize simple process and outcome measures to ensure accountability and effectiveness;
Identify common ethical dilemmas in therapy and supervision;
Integrate multiple theoretical psychotherapy frameworks;
Incorporate patient feedback directly into therapy and supervisory relationships;
Identify the common factors that inform effective psychotherapy;
Better treat ‘difficult’ patients;
Create and manage effective supervisory relationships.
The Advanced Certificate Program in Psychotherapy and Clinical Supervision will meet monthly for 1 ½ hours between September and May and is designed to provide the credits necessary for supervisory credentialing and meet the ethics requirements for relicensure.
CEUs: 12 Hours Program Cost: $ 299
