SAVE THE DATE!

The 2008 BPI Conference is coming, May 5th, 2008:

We will present The New Face of Psychotherapy III at the Sheppard Pratt Conference Center.
Directions            Download and fill out the application.

The Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute's annual conference is the forum for integrating theory and practice. This year we retrieve some of Freud's most important insights while maintaining a contemporary focus on the brain and the ethics of an outcome oriented approach to treatment. This conference supplies six (6) Category A/I CEUs, and fulfills the ethics requirement for re-licensure.

Presentations:

Ethics and Self-Determination--Andrew Pollock, LCSW-C
Patient self-determination is thought to be a hallmark of ethical practice yet its limits are often where we expend the most effort, find the most change, and discover real ethical dilemmas. We will explore the ethics of self-determination when addressing boundary violations, substance abuse, suicidality and homicidality, and patient agendas in seeking care.

What's the Evidence on Evidence-Based Practice?--Daniel Buccino, LCSW-C
We will examine the history of, and controversies surrounding, evidence-based practices in health and mental health care, and help participants become critical consumers of EBPs. This session will also enable participants to develop their own practice-based evidence to demonstrate accountability and effectiveness in psychotherapy services.

News on Moods: Diagnostic & Treatment Updates--Frank Mondimore, M.D.
In this lively, clinically-relevant presentation, Dr. Mondimore, Johns Hopkins Faculty member, will review the latest research on the causes of mood disorders, diagnostic spectrum issues, and the most current treatment options. Dr. Mondimore's books will be available for sale and signature.

News:

About 100 people attended the May 2006 BPI Annual Conference: The New Face of Psychotherapy, and according to the evaluations, it was a success!

May 2005-The first class of the inaugural Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute Certificate Program in Psychotherapy graduated with honors.  All the participants reported that the program more than met their expectations; that they felt it would aide them in their practice; and most plan to return for the Advanced Psychotherapy and Supervision Certificate Program.

May 2005-The Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute annual conference was widely attended and well-received.  Scott Miller provided two days of intensive instruction on methods for focusing and changing practice so that it's more effective and provides better treatment to patients.  The first day's large presentation format was helpful to most people who attended, but the more intimate setting of the second day really allowed the participants to explore the uses and possibilities of outcome-driven therapy practice.

An Open Letter to friends and colleagues of The Baltimore Washington Brief Therapy Institute.

Who We Are:

The Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute is an international training and consultation group dedicated to providing the best possible education in effective psychotherapy.  In a mental health marketplace increasingly fragmented by proprietary methods and guru-driven training, the Institute is committed to a patient-anchored, outcome-oriented model of effective practice centered on results rather than rhetoric. Originally founded as the Baltimore-Washington Brief Therapy Institute over ten years ago, the Baltimore Psychotherapy Institute provides a wide range of post-graduate and continuing education options and clinical consultation choices.  The Institute has a proven track record of continuing education successes and has provided training to thousands of therapists through its conferences, certification and consultation programs, and its on-site training

At the Institute, we believe that psychotherapy is a safe, effective, first-line treatment for most emotional and behavioral difficulties that provides lasting solutions without sacrificing ethics or depth psychology. Training via the Institute centers on clinical material, and while we focus on practice-based evidence and effectiveness, we will also deepen the necessary theory base of our work while we continue to expand our community of well-trained therapists.
